Coachella Festival has returned!
Celebrities are back in the desert showcasing their bid for best-dressed in line with the festival’s signature boho aesthetic. Crop tops, micro-shorts, bold prints and cowboy boots ruled the weekend. Festival go-ers brought back a number of comeback Y2K trends to the forefront, from slogan t-shirts to lots of netted Matrix-inspired garments on the likes of Vanessa Hudgens, Timothée Chalamet, Paris Hilton, Bretman Rock and Chloe Cherry.
However, our focus [as always] was on the sunglasses!
Sunglasses are not only the perfect accessory to finish off a look and protect your eyes from the sun, but they also help with one of Coachella’s biggest complaints… The dust. As the desert is hot, dry and the days long - your eyes will really benefit from an extra layer of protection while you’re partying day into night.
Here is a run down of some of our favourite looks from Coachella’s first weekend of live music at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.
From what we have studied so far from weekend one, taking place over the 15th to the 17th of April 2022, is that the Prada PR 17WS 1AB5S0 Black Rectangle Sunglasses are these frames are this Summer's must-have frames.
The full-rim black chunky Prada shades were spotted on Danish-model Nina Agdal, Riverdale star Camila Mendes and rapper Jack Harlow. The versatility of this sunglass model takes inspiration from 90's style with its bold, glossy black, acetate while remaining incredibly current with its sharp geometric leg detail. 'PRADA Milano' is embossed in silver onto the temple giving the piece a classic and sophisticated, yet eye-catching, nod to the Italian brand.
Now, on the other end of the spectrum, 'Big Little Lies' & 'The Society' actress Kathryn Newton has opted for something much brighter and bolder. The Gucci GG0148S 003 [which has also been worn by Coachella headliner Harry Styles] boasts a bright transparent crystal pink frame with large pale pink crystals and smaller hot pink crystals all around the lenses. These spectacular sunglasses are finished with gradient pink lenses and a small interlocking G Gucci logo.
Sticking with the sparkles, we move on to Paris Hilton's Coachella look who is really world-renowned for being sparkly. Paris Hilton goes all out each festival season gathering independent, niche-designers, to create avant-garde looks such as this bejewelled mesh wonder. She finishes her look with a pair of limited-edition Anna-Karin Karlsson's White Gold Mirrored Full Rim Shield Sunglasses With Blue and Silver Mirror ZEISS Lenses
On the more every-day side, Kendall Jenner was seen wearing one of her favourite eyewear brands: DMY by DMY. Kendall has been spotted in the brand's Valentina Sunglasses, Preston Sunglasses and Luca Sunglasses.
Kenny is wearing the Billy Sunglasses which are comprised of black full rim rectangle acetate frames and brown lenses. Their casual look and shape make the DMY sunnies the perfect match for every season and every attire.
Last, but certainly not least, is one of our favourite looks of Coachella's first weekends. Sydney Sweeney in Bottega Veneta. Sydney may be taking some inspiration [or distancing herself?] from her Euphoria character Cassie Howard looking like she may in fact be auditioning for Oklahoma. The actress was spotted wearing a white lace dress, cowboy boots and Bottega Veneta BV1151SA 001 black sunglasses.
With a very demure cat-eye shape, the Bottega Veneta BV1151SA has small acetate nose-pads in at the bridge of the frame to provide extra-support and comfort. The shape is actually an adjusted fit model (the eyewear industry sometimes use the term 'Asian Fit') which describes eyewear that is designed specifically for people who have lower nose bridges and higher cheekbones much like Sydney. These shapes are ideal if you have these facial features and do not want to be uncomfortable at a festival all day or having to fix your frames from sliding down your nose all day. These adjusted-fit sunglasses are constructed to sit slightly upwards so the frame sits higher on the bridge of your nose.
After a three-year hiatus, it doesn't feel like too much has changed in the Coachella-sphre. While Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion played the festivals first weekend - the fashion has been much more discussed than any musical performance... Which suits us just fine!
We're eagerly anticipating Coachella Weekend 2 happening over the April 22nd to the 24th.
