What Does Polarised Mean?

So, a common question that we are often asked is " What Does Polarised Mean ?"

We are here to answer your question so that you do not need to go looking elsewhere.

At Pretavoir we offer such a wide range of glasses and sunglasses - all with different functions and descriptions. There may be some words used in our product titles and descriptions that you aren’t totally familiar with, and that is okay!

In our blog posts, we will try and cover as many of these topics as possible but if you ever need any assistance when ordering glasses then please contact us at hello@pretavoir.co.uk or call us on 0141 552 5065.

This piece will cover polarised sunglasses, which in short, offer the wearer complete clarity while eliminating glare and reducing eye strain.

WHAT ARE POLARISED LENSES?

These lenses are specialised eyewear designed to reduce glare that can bounce off surfaces.

Glare might not sound like a massive issue but glare distorts the true colour of an object which, in turn, makes the object harder to distinguish. This can lead to an impairment of your depth perception, distortion of your view, interpretation of colours, and can cause temporary blindness.

WHAT DOES POLARISED MEAN & HOW DO THEY LENSES WORK?

They work as a virtually invisible filter built into your lenses eliminating the amount of glare reflecting light into your eyes. Polarised lenses can be helpful in making images more defined while also increasing visual clarity and eye comfort.

WHO NEEDS THEM?

Quite honestly, we believe that everyone could benefit from wearing polarised sunglasses!

When Polarised sunglasses were first created, the main benefits were thought to be for people who spent a lot of time fishing, sailing or at the beach as these lenses block glare from light reflecting off the surface of the water better than another type of lens.

However, over time, polarised glasses have become much more popular making them the ideal lens option for all sunglass shoppers! Today, this type of sunglasses aren't just for people who spend time near water - anyone who is bothered by bright lights and glare can benefit from these advanced sunglass lenses.

For instance, sunglasses with polarised lenses can be helpful for driving as they reduce glare from reflective flat surfaces, such as the sun shining on bonnets and through windows of vehicles and bouncing off the light-coloured pavement. This allows you to drive safer and more comfortably.

To summarise, polarised sunglasses are perfect for those who want:
  • Clearer vision - especially in bright conditions.
  • Increased contrast with minimal colour distortion.
  • Reduced glare and reflection, in turn leading to reduced eyestrain.

WHEN ARE THESE TYPE OF LENSES NOT SUITABLE?

There are instances when this type of lenses are not suitable. For instance, if you work with screens as the lenses can interfere with your ability to view LCD screens such as smartphones, televisions or tablets.
