Alexander McQueen was born in London on March 17th 1969. He left school at the age of 16 and undertook an apprenticeship at the traditional Savile Row tailors Anderson and Sheppard and then at neighboring Gieves and Hawkes. Learning from both masters in technical construction, McQueen honed his skills and from there moved to a theatrical costumiers’ Angels and Bermans where he mastered six methods of pattern cutting from the melodramatic 16th Century to the razor-sharp tailoring which has become a McQueen signature.
Alexander McQueen will be remembered as one of the most influential fashion designers of his generation, known for his highly original designs that married true creativity with exceptional technical ability. This sensibility has been carried on after his death by creative director Sarah Burton and her team at Alexander McQueen and can be seen in each eyewear design. Each pair of glasses have been carefully crafted in opalescent acetate and corrosion-resistant Monel metal. The resulting in frames that are beautiful, lightweight, and sturdy.
