About The Brand
The Gucci brand is one of the oldest Italian fashion brands in operation today. Founded in 1921, Guccio Gucci opens his workshop and store in Florence. The products combined English aesthetic with Tuscan craftsmanship and expertise.
Guccio Gucci was born in 1881 to a simple Italian leather goods maker. One of his first jobs was as a porter at the Savoy hotel in London. It is here he became obsessed with glamorous leather suitcases that the guests arrived with. Seeing visitors, and their luggage, from all over the world inspired Guccio Gucci to open his Italian fashion label in 1921.
His label produced luxury travel goods for Italy's wealthy upper-classes, as well as equestrian equipment. Interestingly, the equestrian sport became a source of inspiration for Gucci and the iconic house emblems.
In 2014, Marco Bizzarri became the CEO of Gucci and hired Alessandro Michele as creative director. These two designers completely redesigned Gucci, preparing it for the next generation. Alessandro Michele has made fashion more gender-fluid. His collections for Gucci are unique and fun meanwhile still keeping to the high standard of Guccio Gucci’s original work.
