Emmanuel Macron’s Viral Davos Sunglasses

Emmanuel Macron’s Viral Davos Sunglasses

When French President Emmanuel Macron arrived at the World Economic Forum in Davos this January wearing blue-tinted aviator sunglasses indoors, the internet predictably did what it does best: speculate wildly. Within hours, social media transformed the moment into memes, conspiracy theories, and comparisons ranging from secret-agent chic to unexpectedly convincing rockstar energy. Alongside First Lady Brigitte Macron, whose polished style has long attracted fashion attention in its own right, the French president once again found himself at the centre of a viral fashion conversation: albeit unintentionally this time.

For those less familiar with the French political landscape, Emmanuel Macron has served as President of France since 2017 and remains one of Europe’s most internationally recognisable political figures. Known for his polished, modern image and carefully measured public persona, Macron’s style choices (whether intentional or otherwise) frequently attract attention well beyond politics, particularly within fashion and luxury circles.

The explanation behind the sunglasses proved far less dramatic and rather refreshingly human. Macron later revealed that he was simply covering a harmless temporary subconjunctival haemorrhage, commonly known as a broken blood vessel in the eye. Brushing off concerns with characteristic ease, he jokingly referred to it as the “eye of the tiger”. Naturally, however, fashion enthusiasts and eyewear-watchers quickly became more interested in the frames themselves.

The sunglasses in question were identified as the Pacific S 01 Doublè Or, or Double Gold, by French eyewear house Henry Jullien. The model features a classic aviator silhouette with softly tinted blue lenses and refined metal detailing, delivering a look that feels equal parts diplomatic and effortlessly stylish. The lightly coloured lenses in particular gave the frame a distinctly modern feel, softening the formal sharpness often associated with political dressing. It is precisely the kind of understated eyewear moment that quietly captures attention without trying too hard. Very French, in essence.

Interestingly, the sunglasses appeared predominantly silver-toned because the frame has a cool polished metal finish, and the blue lenses visually pushed the frame appearance toward silver/chrome rather than warm gold. The viral appearance also reignited interest in metal aviator sunglasses with blue lenses, a timeless combination that continues to cycle back into fashion year after year.
