This collection embodies delicacy, precision, and beauty while capturing the contemporary flair that has become synonymous with Face à Face. With a bold, 'outside the box' approach, this collection truly stands out. Let's take a closer look at some of the pieces that have caught our attention here at Pret a Voir.
Japan, with its deep-rooted history, beauty, and tradition, exemplifies a culture that honors its heritage while infusing new vibrancy into the mix.
Kyoto
Kyoto, often regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, offers travelers breathtaking vistas filled with bamboo forests, traditional temples, and a profusion of Sakura. The Kyoto range reflects these natural elements with hues of green, brown, and Havana, evoking the serene experience of strolling through these famous bamboo groves.
The temples, with their elegant design, echo the rising sun symbol from the front, while the overall structure resembles an instrument used in the exquisite tea ceremony. The inspiration behind these stunning pieces comes from the creative genius of Shiro Kuramata, particularly his iconic armchair with its cylindrical backrest. The dynamic design of these glasses is amplified by angular shapes that create a striking and sophisticated silhouette.

Kanji
Kanji refers to the logographic Chinese characters adapted into the Japanese writing system. While Kanji forms an integral part of the language, Japanese cannot be fully written using these characters alone, leading to the language’s evolution with modern additions over time. This blend of tradition and innovation is precisely what this range embodies—reinterpreting and reinventing classic style by drawing on the geometry and heritage of the ancient script, while offering something visually striking and refreshingly modern.
Nendo
Simple, minimalist, yet full of surprises at every turn—this is the essence of Nendo, a design studio rooted in the vibrant city of Tokyo. Named after the Japanese word for modeling clay, Nendo, led by chief architect Oki Sato, embraces a playful approach to design. The Face à Face Nendo range is no exception, expressing this creativity through curves and lines within a minimal frame, casting silhouettes that play with light and shadow. Core colors include rich Havanas, vibrant reds, and fresh greens, bringing a lively touch to the collection.
Haori
Continuing our exploration of design and beauty, we present the Haori models. These frames are beautifully crafted, echoing the elegance of a traditional Haori—a Japanese hip- or thigh-length jacket worn over a kimono. This shorter garment features thinner collars, wider sleeves, and sometimes a loose belt, all of which Face à Face has reimagined with exquisite precision.
The design meticulously mirrors the Haori’s distinctive elements: the wider sleeves are reflected in the front half of the temples, while the slender waistband is elegantly showcased at the midpoint of the frame. The colors are vibrant and airy, bringing a sense of joy to the design. These frames are a testament to imaginative design, crafted to be worn with the same grace and elegance as the garment they represent.
Reeds
As Johnny Tillotson’s 1960s song goes, the Reeds collection truly embodies 'Poetry in Motion.' Poetry and precision come together harmoniously in the delicate curves of the Reeds, inspired by the graceful flow of reeds swaying in a Japanese landscape. A fine line of consistent width runs from the eye to the endpiece, lending an air of elegance and meticulous craftsmanship to this design.
Bocca Naoko
No Face à Face collection would be complete without the addition of the iconic Bocca pieces, and the Japan Now collection is no exception. The name 'Naoko' can have various meanings in Kanji, such as obedient, straight, or honest, and Face à Face has playfully interpreted these meanings. They’ve remained true to the distinctive Bocca aesthetic, preserving the signature boot while infusing it with an origami-inspired twist. The Bocca Naoko pieces feature unique color palettes and a design that is both bold and strong, while still redefining feminine originality. Vibrancy and contemporary style are at the heart of this range.
