The Batman Sunglasses: Get The Look

With rumours circulating of Robert Pattinson appearing in his second installment of 'The Batman', we thought that it seemed fitting to take a trip back in time to discuss the famous 'Batman Sunglasses' the star wore in the 2022 film production.

"The Batman" was one of the most highly anticipated film productions of 2022. Directed by Matt Reeves and produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, the action-packed film starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside Zoë Kravitz and Colin Farrell. The movie reportedly grossed over $770 million and runs for just under three hours full of action-packed madness. This version of Batman in this film aims to create a darker and more grounded take on the character, with a focus on his detective skills and fighting abilities.

After the film's release, many fans were curious about the eyewear worn by Pattinson in a particular scene in the film. Pattinson sits in a café, semi-shielding his face with a newspaper, which certainly does not take the look away from his sleek rectangle frame shades. Now let's take a look at the specific model he wears...

Persol is a brand known for being popular within the film industry, particularly among actors and filmmakers who value high-quality, stylish eyewear. The Italian luxury eyewear brand has been around since 1917, and its glasses are known for their attention to detail, timeless aesthetic, and high-quality craftsmanship. Many celebrities and fashion icons have worn Persol sunglasses both on and off the screen.

One of the most notable examples of Persol glasses appearing in successful film production was the 1968 classic, “The Thomas Crown Affair.” The main character, Thomas Crown, was portrayed by Steve McQueen - a legendary actor and one of the biggest stars during the 60s and 70s. His effortlessly cool and iconic style was admired worldwide, and the Persol 714 sunglasses Thomas Crown wore cemented his image off-screen. This film helped solidify the brand's reputation as a go-to choice for stylish eyewear.

But it doesn’t stop there. In 2006, Daniel Craig appeared in his first James Bond film, “Casino Royale”, wearing none other than two pairs of Persol frames. Bond wears the models 2244 and 2720 - and again, these frames quickly became recognised as the “James Bond sunglasses.”It is safe to say that the brand's distinctive styling and high-quality materials have made them a popular choice for filmmakers looking to add a touch of sophistication and style to their characters' looks.

Persol - High-Quality Italian Eyewear

Founded in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, the name comes from the Italian phrase "per il sole" - meaning "for the sun." The brand was created to provide eyewear for pilots and sports drivers but quickly became popular with a wider audience due to its unique design and high-quality materials.

One of the most iconic features of Persol eyewear is the silver arrow symbol, which is still present on many of their frames today. The symbol was originally designed to hold the temple hinges in place but has since become the brand's trademark design.

Persol Eyewear
Throughout its history, Persol has been committed to using the highest quality materials in its products. They were one of the first companies to use tempered glass lenses, which are more durable and scratch-resistant than traditional plastic lenses. They also use a unique acetate material in their frames, which is handcrafted in Italy and provides both durability and comfort.

In addition to its commitment to quality, Persol has also become known for its timeless design style. Their frames often feature unique details such as keyhole bridges and subtle curves, which give them a distinctive look that has remained popular for decades. Alongside their significant history within the eyewear industry, their commitment to the finest materials and classic designs has made them a favourite of many discerning eyewear enthusiasts.

With talk of another Batman film in the pipeline, we will be sure to keep an eye out for any frames that may be worn in the upcoming film. But in the meantime...
