Cutler and Gross x The Great Frog
This is The Great Frog’s first ever eyewear collection in collaboration with luxury British eyewear brand Cutler and Gross. Handcrafted in the Cutler and Gross Atelier in Italy.
Cutler and Gross are renowned for their hand-made, bespoke frames. The brand is the natural choice for many discerning customers, who valued the Cutler and Gross commitment to quality, fit and good design. And, this was the choice for The Great Frog’s Creative Director, Reino Lehtonen-Riley, who designed three sunglasses and two optical glasses, which embody his passion for unexpected details and anti-establishment, irreverent, iconic style.
Cutler and Gross have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to everchanging modern-day attitudes. The design duo transformed the eyewear market forever thanks to their pioneering approach that fused elegance, creativity and cutting-edge craft without compromise. It’s a philosophy that has endured for over half a century and continues to shape the Cutler and Gross collections to this day.
The exclusive collection comprises of five styles which embody The Great Frog brand. Each frame incorporates an iconic .925 sterling silver emblem which has become synonymous with the British Jewellery brand; The Reaper, Crossbones and Dagger.
- The Reaper: Perfectly blends the distinctive design language of TGF with Cutler and Gross. The large square sunglasses have weight-saving ‘televisioni’ reverse milling for additional comfort and character. Featuring a namesake Reaper emblem detail which is hand cast in solid British 925 Sterling Silver.
Available in four different colourways: Black, Tiger Eye Havana, Dark Grey, Bordeaux.
- Crossbones: Inspired by one of Cutler and Gross’ bestselling pairs of sunglasses first created in 1985. The Crossbones features 925 Sterling Silver crossbones detailing, from the TGF logo. These glasses have a thicker temple at the hinge, for a bolder silhouette and improved stability when wearing.
Available in four different colourways: Black, Tiger Eye Havana, Pewter Grey, Olive.
- The Dagger is a classic rectangle frame with 9mm acetate and larger lenses. Simple but packed full of sharp details, namely the British 925 Sterling Silver dagger frontals, but also the hidden and unique TGF ‘Lockdown Link’ Temple Core Wire running through the arms. These emblems can be found on the temples and frontals, combined with Cutler and Gross’ handcrafted Italian acetates and classic shapes.
This is a compact everyday optical with plenty of TGF’s rock ‘n’ roll spirit.
Available in four different colourways: Black, Cola Crystal, Pewter Grey, Leaf Green.
Then, to top off this entire iconic collection - the frames are brought to life by the legendary Iggy Pop.
Iggy Pop arrives on set for The Great Frog photoshoot at the wheel of his own 2009 Rolls Royce Drophead. The campaign is shot by Jack Waterlot on the shores of Coral Cables in Miami, Florida.
Iggy Pop is renowned for his unpredictable live stage performances, poetic lyrics and distinctive voice. He remains an iconic figure with his exuberant style continuing to influence the rock music industry and entertainers alike.
“A good pair of sunglasses should be perfectly suited at the beach or blocking the paparazzi’s lens stumbling out of a dive bar at 3am,” Reino Lehtonen-Riley, owner of the legendary London jewellers, declares, “That’s Iggy.”
Iggy’s been shopping at The Great Frog for years, buying their signature sterling silver skull rings and has been wearing Cutler and Gross sunglasses since the 70s. “These shades say something,” Pop says in his signature drawl. So he appeared as the perfect fit for the brand’s collaboration.
