THE LEGACY OF GUCCI: A STORY OF ITALIAN CRAFTSMANSHIP AND INNOVATION
Guccio Gucci was born in 1881 to a family of Italian leather good artisans. He started his career as a porter at the Savoy Hotel in London, and it was there that he became fascinated by the stylish and luxurious suitcases carried by the hotel's guests from around the world. This fascination inspired him to establish his Italian fashion label in 1921, creating high-end travel goods and equestrian equipment for the country's affluent elite. Today, Gucci is one of the oldest Italian fashion brands in operation.
In 2014, Marco Bizzarri took on the role of CEO and brought on Alessandro Michele as Creative Director, ushering in a new era for the brand. Together, they revolutionised Gucci by shedding the outdated ideas holding the brand back by introducing a fresh, modern aesthetic. Gone were the historic faces of the brand, who remain in Gucci's extensive brand history, such as Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly, and contemporary celebrities filled their place, such as Rihanna, Lana Del Ray, Harry Styles, and ASAP Rocky. Under Michele's direction, Gucci has become a pioneer of gender-fluid and unconventional fashion while still maintaining the high standards set by Guccio Gucci himself.
At the beginning of 2023, Sabato De Sarno took on the role of Creative Director at Gucci - filling Alessandro Michele's shoes.
AUTHENTICITY AND MANUFACTURING OF GUCCI SUNGLASSES
Pretavoir are authentic, registered Gucci sunglasses stockist. All of our frames come direct from the manufacturer in Italy. They are sent out with the official Gucci case (which can vary between different models), cleaning cloth, and authenticity certificate. Each pair of sunglasses comes printed with the Gucci model and colour code on the inside arm, along with the size (in the format '49 22', where 49 is the lens width, and 22 is the bridge width). Also printed on the inside of the arm is 'Made in Italy', along with the Gucci logo. There is often a unique serial number printed too, which can be authenticated at any Gucci boutique.
STYLE AND SHAPES
Gucci's sunglasses collection offers a range of frame shapes, from the always popular aviator and wayfarer to more flared cat-eye and oversized styles. Gucci also offers its take on the flash mirror lens, creating bright statement frames with wayfarer-style shapes. Their classic (and very obviously Gucci) oversized styles also remain popular every season with both newcomers to the brand and collectors alike.
