The world's biggest sporting event has arrived.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup marks a historic edition of the tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. For the first time ever, 48 national teams will compete for football's ultimate prize across 16 host cities throughout North America, making this the largest FIFA World Cup in history.

Final Match and Closing Ceremony — 19 July

The 2026 FIFA World Cup reached its climax on Sunday, 19 July, with the final taking place at New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium). Spain lifted the trophy after edging past defending champions Argentina 1-0 following extra time, courtesy of Ferran Torres' decisive strike in the 106th minute.

Beyond the result, the final was billed as a meeting of footballing generations, with 39-year-old Lionel Messi facing Spain's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, aged just 19, in one of the tournament's defining moments.

Tom Cruise, who delivered the opening monologue from the pitch ahead of the FIFA World Cup Final, wore Jacques Marie Mage Fellini sunglasses in black.

Madonna was among the star-studded performers at the FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show, Super Bowl-style. She wore vintage Christian Dior DiorGo shield sunglasses.

Football legend Ronaldinho, who shared a halftime show moment with Madonna, debuted the new Dita x Ronaldinho Dubsignal DTS465 sunglasses from his collaboration with the iconic eyewear brand. He wore the gold and grey colourway.

Officially the Queen of the World Cup after recording four official tournament songs, Shakira returned to perform at the FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show, having also headlined the Opening Ceremony. Officially a World Cup winner, Spain forward Lamine Yamal was pictured sitting on the pitch with his winners' medal wearing orange Y-3 Yohji Yamamoto Tech Visor sunglasses, a grail-worthy piece originally released in 2019.

The hero of the night, goalscorer Ferran Torres, was spotted in the changing room after the match celebrating with his winners' medal while wearing matte black SKYLRK Speed Demon sunglasses. The brand was co-founded by Justin Bieber.

Sergio Ramos, who represented Spain at four FIFA World Cups between 2010 and 2022, looked every bit the proud supporter as the next generation lifted the 2026 trophy. He was wearing gold and tortoise Tom Ford Liam-02 TF1360 sunglasses featuring green lenses.

Quarter Finals — 9 - 11 July

The internet's most-talked-about footballer, Erling Haaland, who guided Norway back to the FIFA World Cup after a 28-year absence, was spotted arriving home wearing black round sunglasses from his own eyewear collection, the Erling Haaland HAL S32.

Following England's 2–1 quarter-final victory over Norway, with Jude Bellingham on the scoresheet, the midfielder was seen wearing Chrome Hearts Roller sunglasses in a post shared on his Instagram post on 13 July.

Finally! A Lamine Yamal eyewear sighting for us to talk about. Right after Spain's 2–1 win over Belgium at Los Angeles Stadium on 10 July, the forward was spotted wearing Chrome Hearts Evangelist optical glasses.

Round of 16 — 4 - 8 July

Actor and television host Terry Crews was spotted at the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash between Brazil and Norway at New Jersey Stadium on 5 July, wearing black Mykita Musk 354 sunglasses. He watched Norway secure a 2–1 victory over Brazil to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Round of 32 — 28 June - 3 July

Samuel L. Jackson turned heads at Dallas Stadium for the Round of 32 match between Australia and Egypt on 3 July, where Egypt progressed 4–2 on penalties after a 1–1 draw.

Group Stage — 13-27 June

Curaçao midfielder Juninho Bacuna wore the new Burberry BE3171 1003/87 sunglasses in gunmetal, freshly arrived as part of our Summer 2026 drop, ahead of the Group E match between Curaçao and Côte d'Ivoire at Philadelphia Stadium on 25 June, which ended in a 2–0 victory for Côte d'Ivoire.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo was seen wearing tortoise Oliver Peoples N.09 OV5586SU sunglasses featuring light blue lenses ahead of Group K match against Uzbekistan at Houston Stadium on 23 June, which ended in a 5-0 victory for Portugal.

Tom Cruise and David Beckham sat side by side for the opening Group D match between the United States and Paraguay, immediately following the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles on 12 June. Tom Cruise was spotted wearing the iconic gold Ray-Ban Aviator RB3025 L0205 sunglasses featuring green lenses.

Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds was spotted wearing transparent brown Oliver Peoples OV5517SU sunglasses during the Group B match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina, held immediately after the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Toronto on 12 June. This style has since been discontinued.

Opening Ceremony – 12 June

The FIFA World Cup 2026 celebrations continued at Los Angeles Stadium on 12 June with another star-studded Opening Ceremony before hosts USA opened their campaign with a victory over Paraguay. Blending music, culture, and sport, the event showcased some of the biggest names in global entertainment before attention turned to the action on the pitch.

Nigerian superstar Rema, who performed alongside LISA and Anitta, wore one of Givenchy's most coveted eyewear releases, the GV Shower sunglasses from the Spring/Summer 2019 collection. Unfortunately, this striking style has since been discontinued.

Also taking to the stage was Future, who performed alongside Tyla wearing the bold Louis Vuitton LV Heritage Square sunglasses.

Also on 12 June at Toronto Stadium, Canada, an Opening Ceremony was held ahead of the host nation's match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alanis Morissette and Aleksandar Gajić performed the national anthems for Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina respectively, before the inaugural fixture ended in a draw. Other entertainers taking to the stage included Michael Bublé and Alessia Cara.

Although we did not spot any performers wearing sunglasses during the ceremony, we did catch a glimpse of actor Will Arnett, who served as an official ambassador and delivered a rousing speech celebrating Canada while wearing black sunglasses from Port Tanger.

Opening Ceremony – 11 June

The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially got underway at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, making history as the first stadium to host the tournament's opening match for a third time. A vibrant Opening Ceremony celebrated the cultures of the three host nations before hosts Mexico defeated South Africa to become the first team to record a victory at this historic edition of the World Cup.

Global superstar Shakira took to the stage for the Opening Ceremony performance wearing black Balenciaga BB0041S 001 wraparound sunglasses.

Colombian stars J Balvin and Ryan Castro brought plenty of energy to the Opening Ceremony celebrations.

J Balvin performed wearing Arnette Bubblewrap sunglasses, while Ryan Castro opted for black Prada D06S 16K03D sunglasses featuring grey lenses. This new Prada style from Spring/Summer 2026 collection is currently available in-stock in very limited quantities.

Andrea Bocelli also played a role in the evening's celebrations, wearing Blackfin Sun Thunder Bay BF1095 1462 aviator sunglasses in black and silver.

The acclaimed tenor previously wore the same style from Blackfin in a different colourway (grey with blue gradient lenses) during the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics earlier this year.

Airport Arrivals

Team Portugal arrived at Palm Beach International Airport on 12 June.

Captain and forward Cristiano Ronaldo was seen wearing the new Gucci GG2177S sunglasses in silver, a style expected to arrive at Pretavoir in Autumn 2026.

Team Scotland arrived through Boston Airport on 12 June.

Midfielder Scott McTominay wore black Chimi Novis sunglasses.

Team France arrived at Boston International Airport on 10 June.

Captain and forward Kylian Mbappé was seen wearing the new Oakley MUZM Fatcat sunglasses in black.

Also arriving with the French squad was forward Ousmane Dembélé, who opted for the Jacques Marie Mage x Haider Ackermann Balthazar sunglasses, one of the most talked-about designer collaborations of recent seasons.

Team Germany touched down at Smith Reynolds Airport in North Carolina on 8 June.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer arrived wearing Cartier CT0460S Santos sunglasses in silver featuring yellow lenses from the Spring 2024 collection. Unfortunately, this style has now been discontinued.

Team Austria arrived through Los Angeles International Airport on 4 June.
